Lincoln County Family and Consumer Sciences

Family and Consumer Sciences Extension improves the quality of individual and family life through education, research, and outreach.  This multidisciplinary field focuses on building assets of individuals and families to address the problems faces across the lifespan.

Family and Consumer Sciences Extension operates within an ecological framework with the basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter at its core.  The next level emphasizes well-being with a focus on human development, parenting, resource management, nutrition, health, and aesthetics.


September 16 is National Sew A Jelly Roll Day

A huge event is planned to encourage people to sew a jelly roll (or two or three).

Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. and will close at 6:00 p.m.

Bargello Quilt Class will start at 10:00 a.m. –  Instructors: Rita Stewart & Denise Stewart

Participants must register by calling The Quilter’s Trunk at (606) 787-7648

Class supplies for the Bargello class are required.  A supply list will be provided.

For a fee, participants may choose to have a class kit ready for them when they arrive for class.


Demonstrations from 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.   Projects made using jelly rolls will be on display

Refreshments – maybe even a real jelly roll (not a fabric one).


Bring your sewing machine if doing the class, notions, a sack lunch, and whatever else you may need to keep you comfy as you spend the day sewing a jelly roll (or two) with friends!


Lunch time (on your own mainly with some light refreshments available) will be from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Door Prizes will also be given away throughout the day.  Must be present to win.  This program is being co-sponsored by the UK Lincoln County Extension Office and The Quilters Trunk in Liberty. Open to the general public. Come and spend the whole day or part of the day with us.          Choose to do the Bargello quilt class if you want;  watch exciting demonstrations;                      view numerous samples including many quilts, pillow, jacket, and lots more made from jelly rolls;  browse new and exciting quilting tools, sewing machines, fabric jelly rolls, fabrics, and much, much more.

This is the first event here of this type.  Please mark your calendar now and plan to join us as we share in a day of Jelly Roll Sewing and Festivities! If you have questions, please let us know. 


Checkered Dresden Quilting Series

Dates:    September 26, October 3 & 10th

                  (All 3 sessions are required)

Time:        4:30  – 7:30 p.m.

Place:      Lincoln County Extension Office

Learn to make a Checkered Dresden plate quilt block using a jelly roll  (40 -- 2.5 inch strips). Fabric for the background will also be needed if  putting the Dresden Plate onto a square for a pillow, quilt, etc. Participants will receive a complete supply list when registering for the class.  Participants must bring their own supplies for the class. To register,  please call  the Lincoln County Extension Office.  Spaces are limited for the class.  Open to the general public.  Previous sewing and strip quilt    piecing experience is needed.

The Lunch-N-Learn Program is offered monthly through the Lincoln County Extension Office. The program is prepared and presented by Rita Stewart, County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences.  The topics are chosen by Rita each month.

When:  The First Wednesday of each month (except for the winter months-we will post the dates that we're not having this)

Time:  12 noon
